Cairt an Aontaithe

The Joining Covenant of Tuatha Érenn

Before those who went before me and those who come after, I come of my own free will into the covenant of Tuatha Érenn, and I give this word to every man and woman in it.

My word. I have read the Cairt and the Bunreacht. I endorse and accept them, and I will keep to them, and to every decision properly made under them, for as long as I am of this body.

Honour and truth. I will deal with every man and woman in good faith and with honour. I will speak the truth, in the record and out of it. My standing stands behind my word, and I know a false word costs it.

​

Our own courts. Every dispute I have with another member I will bring to the body’s courts, and only there. I will never bring the State against another member, in any of its courts, tribunals, offices or agencies. Grave crime, and danger to anyone’s life or safety, I may bring to anyone, at any time.

Making good. I will keep the judgments of the body’s courts, and make good whatever they find I owe.

​

Told plainly. I have been told plainly that the State does not recognise this body; that its courts will apply their own rules, whatever we declare; that my record in an taifead (the record) is not State identification, and I will never offer it as such; and that the body will stand with me, but will never promise me an outcome. I come knowing all of this.

​

If I break faith. If, by my own choice, I bring the State against another member, I part company with the body, and every right and share I hold under its covenants goes back to the line it came from. What I hold in my own right is never touched, and the home I live in is never taken.

 

Free. I am free to leave at any time, and I will honour to their term the covenants I have made.

 

The values. Truth, honour, generosity, courage, sovereignty and compassion: these I will hold to.
